Session Experience

Tu Quynh :

Many of us might not have much experience as examiners. So, I think
it's good if we can share our experience of session management. We can
learn from each other's mistakes and genuine solution to make the best
sessions ourselves.
You can tell us:
_ How was your session?
_ Was there any difficulties in contacting members?
_ Did you have problems with the voice chat services? How did you
solve it?
_ Any other difficulties?
It's cool if you can share some thoughts of how to make a good
session.
Also tell us your mistake because you can help us avoid doing the
same. Plus, writing it down will help you learn from it more.
Tu Quynh :
Yesterday, I host 2 sessions. Both were great but there were still
some problems. I think they're worth to share.
First is the problem with the voice chat services. With the first
candidate, Yahoo didn't work out but Skype was good. So, when we could
not use Yahoo. I asked the candidate to change to Skype. She didn't
have one, so I recommend her to create Skype account. Then, it turned
out to be the best session I've ever had.
Ridiculously, Skype didn't work out in the second session, but Yahoo
did :)))))))))) So, I've learnt to be flexible, willing to switch
between those services.
Second is their listening skill. I reckon that these two members are
not very good at listening (or maybe because I'm bad at speaking).
Sometimes I have to repeat the questions. Ya, you should show that
you're willing to repeat the questions. Sometimes, they are just too
shy to ask you: "What the hell are you asking me?" I'm kidding.
They're very polite.
Because they're not very good at listening, I think it's better to
give them feedback and advice by Vietnamese. However, I still ask
them: "Do you want me to give feedback in English or Vietnamese?" They
chose Vietnamese, as I guest, but it's still better to let them
decide.
Despite those problems, I had lots of fun with them.
Regards to giving feedback, I think you should take note during
session. I have very bad memory, so it's the best way for me. I take
note on their grammar mistakes, pronunciation mistakes and inadequate
answers, just name a few.
How was your session?
